Many people like to use Microsoft
Windows XP for their Operating System. XP is fast and good enough for
anybody need. By default, Windows XP already have build in search
function to find files at hard drive. Although it can help as to find
files, but it have weakness in speed if we already have so many files
stored at our hard drive.
Other weakness of Windows XP build-in
search is it only can find base by filename and or maybe it can
search inside document but only for txt document. That's why we need
other tools to help us faster finding file at hard drive forest. I
used to find file using Google Desktop, but there are several
weakness for fine file with Google Desktop. We will talk more detail
about Google Desktop at next article.
Microsoft also have installation for
upgrade the weakness of build-in search function. We have to download
it from Windows Search for XP (minimum for Windows XP SP2 above). After
finish download at about 5MB files, start run it with double click.
Follow the instruction until finish. For make search file become more
faster, this additional Windows Search will index all files first at
it database, it need about several hours to make it done (depend on
hard drive space), but we still can work with our computer while
indexing. After finish index, we can try to use it to find any word
at document such as pdf and others. This is very useful and must
install to replace default search function. If we install this
software, then the default search function will be change
automatically, so if we run search from Start > Search menu, than
it will directly use new Windows Search function. This upgrade the
ability of windows search function also available for Windows Vista,
Windows 2003 Server, Windows XP 64bit.
